Improvisation for Piano Trio No 1 (Download)

This is the improvisation that preceded the actual Piano Trio No 1 score. While at BYU, we had the awesome opportunity to have a professional piano trio come and play the music we had written for us. They did not want to be named due to their contracts and whatnot, so that will remain anonymous. However, it was quite the privilege to write for them and hear them perform this afterward!

It’s also fun that I was able to dig up this improvisation and see how much was developed before ever putting the pencil to paper.

Another fun fact, I actually did the math wrong for the tempo speed, and the trio played it almost 2x as fast as I intended mostly because of difficulty level and to hear the 2 against 3 rhythm of the piano part. It was a happy accident though, it sounds fantastic at the faster speed!
